How to Jump Start Another Car

Most people have gotten stuck on the side of the road with a dead battery. While you may know that a battery is dying if you notice flickering lights or residue on the top of the terminals, many people never realize that they are about to run out of juice on the highway. For this reason, it’s important to carry a set of jumper cables. Even when your battery dies, there’s a chance you can bring it back to life using this method.

Jump-starting a car requires a working car battery and a set of jumper cables. The drivers must turn off the ignitions of both cars to get started. Once your car is parked and completely shut off, you can attach the jumper cables according to the red and black clips. Red clips attach to positive terminals, and black clips attach to the negative terminals on the battery. With the cables attached, the working car battery needs to be turned on to start charging up your dead battery. The charging time is approximately 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the battery and how dead it is.
